Bali Golf & Country Club Closes For Major Renovation

In a short period of time Bali Golf & Country Club will be celebrating the conclusion of 21 years of operations , having opened on March 4, 1991.
Anywhere in the world golf courses with such a heritage begin to require some redesign and modernization and Bali Golf & Country Club is not exempt from those needs.

As part of an overall redevelopment plan to rename the property as the Bali National Golf Resort, the first phase of the redevelopment plan will be major renovations to the golf course, which will be increased in length from the tournament tees to 7,200+ yards, together with new green's complexes on all holes and new club facilities, which will enhance the golfing experience for all resort guests.

These renovations mean the golf course must be closed for a period of time, so as to enable the upgrading of the golf course, together with the new clubhouse, which will result in Bali's best located and favorite golf resort, being of the 5 star standards expected of the best golf courses in both Asia and the World today.

Because of this effective February 16, 2012 Bali Golf & Country Club, Nusa Dua will be closed until further notice.

All golfers will be welcomed back on the greens and fairways of Bali National Golf Resort in early 2013.

Asia Pacific Golf Summit Heads To Oil-Rich Sultanate Of Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei), January 26 - The 2012 Asia Pacific Golf Summit (APGS) will be staged in the oil-rich state of Brunei. European golfing legend Colin Montgomerie will be among the keynote speakers at the sixth edition of the Summit, now firmly established as one of the world’s leading business gatherings for the golf industry.

The luxurious, six-star Empire Hotel and Country Club will be the venue for the three-day Summit, from December 11-13. The facility, with its Jack Nicklaus-designed course, is a two-time winner of the Best Golf Resort in Asia Pacific category in the Asian Golf Monthly Awards.

The participation of Montgomerie, an eight-time European Tour Order of Merit champion and captain of Europe’s triumphant Ryder Cup team in 2010, is certain to add spice to the occasion.

Mike Sebastian, Chief Executive Officer of the Asia Pacific Golf Group, owner and producer of the acclaimed APGS, said: “We are delighted to have Colin as a special celebrity keynote speaker. Besides adding a tremendous touch of class to the Summit, he is certain to stimulate delegates and guests with his forthright views on a wide variety of topics affecting the industry.”

APGS is an annual high-level gathering dedicated to the business and operational aspects of the golf industry in the Asia Pacific region. Notable past speakers who have addressed the Summit include Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Peter Thomson, Greg Norman, Annika Sorenstam, Tony Jacklin and Robert Trent Jones II.

Montgomerie will now join that illustrious list. ‘Monty’, as he is popularly known, has had a spectacular career, including a streak of seven consecutive Order of Merit successes from 1993 to 1999, and 31 European Tour victories, placing him fourth on the all-time list. His career high world ranking was second.

He’s enjoyed plenty of success in Asia with wins in the Macau Open, Hong Kong Open and Singapore Masters, among others. In recent years, he’s begun to make a name for himself as a promising course designer. Arguably his finest work has come at The Montgomerie Links in Danang, voted Best Course in Vietnam for the past two years in the Asian Golf Monthly Awards.

Moving to the Sultanate of Brunei, a new dimension will be added to the 2012 APGS as it will be staged in conjunction with the Royal Trophy, the inter-continental team match play challenge between eight-strong line-ups from Asia and Europe. Featuring teams captained by Japan’s Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki and Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal, the sixth Royal Trophy will take place from December 14-16, directly after the Summit.

Sebastian said: “By staging these two world-class events together, we are actually creating an unmatched golf spectacle of global proportions – the coming together of the best in a golf business event and a golf tournament.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Desmond Acheson, General Manager, Empire Hotel and Country Club. He said: “We are extremely delighted to be able to play host to these two stellar events and we strongly believe that by staging both the events together we will be creating a not-to-be-missed world-class golf classic for the global golf trade and golf fans.”

Ian Woosnam And Michael Campbell Confirmed For Indonesian Masters

January 26, Jakarta: Ian Woosnam and Michael Campbell have confirmed their participation in Indonesia's most prestigious golf tournament, the Indonesian Masters presented by PNTS in April.

This announcement was made during a press conference held today at the Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, the Official Hotel for the Indonesian Masters.
Left to right: Mr. Darrel Lin (IMPL), Mr. Hans Leo (Linc Group), Mr. Irfan Hamid (Asian Tour), Mr. M. Syafei Asnap (PGPI), Mr. Suryaprabowo (Metro TV) and Mr. George Chandra (Royale Jakarta Golf Club)

The confirmation of the Major winners comes as Metro TV signs on as the Local Broadcast Partner, Linc Group as Main Partner and Hush Puppies Golf as Official Apparel to the event.

The early confirmation of Woosnam and Campbell is a huge boost for the Indonesian Masters presented by PNTS with Lee Westwood and Thongchai Jaidee also set to grace the fairways of Royale Jakarta Golf Club from April 19-22, 2012.

Westwood claimed a memorable victory in the inaugural edition on the Asian Tour last year which coincided with his 38th birthday and a return to the world's number one position, albeit briefly.

“I am looking forward to playing in the Indonesian Masters presented by PNTS. It will be great to be able to play amongst some of Asia’s best and experience this event which made so much noise on the world golf scene last year," said Woosnam, who was one of the "Big Five" generation of European golfers and won the US Masters in 1991.

“Indonesia has been good to me in the past. I won the Alfred Dunhill tournament there in 1995 and I am excited to get back and play in the Indonesian Masters presented by PNTS, which looks like a well organised and world-class tournament,” added 2005 US Open Champion, Michael Campbell.

The addition of Indonesia’s premier News Channel, Metro TV to the family of partners enhances the already strong media platform that the Indonesian Masters has to offer. Metro TV will be broadcasting the Indonesian Masters presented by PNTS for 10 hours Live and will also be airing additional shows and features related to the event and the positive impact it has on the economy of Indonesia.

Through this new partnership, sponsors and partners can enjoy not only a strong local media platform but also Asian Tour’s global television platform, which reaches out to over 200 countries and 850 million households..

The signing of Linc Group as a main partner and Hush Puppies Golf as official apparel to the event strengthens the message that the Indonesian Masters presented by PNTS continues to be an attractive investment for companies ready to support golf in the country. Other partners include BMW (Official Car), Coca-Cola (Official Drinks Partner), Garuda Indonesia (Official Airline), Thiess Indonesia (Main Partner), Navigat Energy (Main Partner) and San Miguel (Official Beer).

Organisers have also started initiatives to develop the game at the grassroot level with the launch of the Indonesian Masters Amateur League. Participants are required to complete a minimum of 3 rounds at Royale Jakarta Golf Club on any Tuesday or Wednesday between now and March 31st and they will be ranked with their average score in an Order of Merit featured on the Indonesian Masters website, www.indonesianmasters.com . The winner of this Order of Merit will win a spot to play in the tournament proper.

A Junior development program is also being conducted on a monthly basis organised by the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI), giving opportunities to the youths of the nation to participate in the Indonesian Masters activities.

My Jakarta: Supriatna, Caddie

Jakarta Globe, 17 Januari 2012 - There’s a sports saying here in Indonesia that the smaller the ball, the more expensive the sport. Yaya Supriatna bet on that adage as a young man, moving from his factory job in Garut, West Java, to make money as a golf caddie in Jakarta. Now 60, he has spent the past 40 years helping golfers work on their games.

Over the years at Rawamangun Golf Club, where he caddies, Yaya has made some key observations. Today he tells My Jakarta the difference between local and foreign players, how he learns from the pros and why anyone who wants to retrieve a ball from the water hazard should think again — and this time with a swimsuit.

Visit Indonesia To Promote Destinations Beyond Jakarta And Bali

Safe destination for single women travellers from India

Express TravelWorld, Januari 2012 - India is a key market for Indonesia’s inbound tourism – it is in fact one of the 10 top source markets for Indonesia. Sanjay Sondhi, country director, Visit Indonesia Tourism Office pointed out that since the outbound market is growing from India and Indians are looking for new destinations, Indonesia is therefore a natural choice as it is a new destination in South East Asia. “Indonesia has over 17,508 Islands to offer to the Indian traveller. Hence there is a potential for Indonesia to be a repeat destination for Indian tourists. There is much more beyond Bali and Jakarta and our focus will be to promote - Lombok, Yogjakarta, Surabaya and Makkasar. We are hoping for Garuda Indonesia to start direct flight from India as this will make accessibility much easier for the Indian outbound travellers,” said Sondhi. He also pointed out that single women travellers from India can confidently plan their next visit to Indonesia as it is a very safe destination for them.

Indian travellers to Indonesia have been showing a year on year growth in numbers - in 2010 as many as 145,000 Indians had travelled to Indonesia and in 2011 the number is expected to touch 160,000. Visit Indonesia Tourism Office is doubling its promotional activities in India in 2012. It is also looking at targeting cites like Ahmedabad and Kolkata besides other tier II and tier III cities like Surat, Pune, etc. “Both the countries have two factors in common- culture and friendliness, hence Indonesia is a natural draw destination for the Indian traveller,” said Sondhi.

Indonesia has been traditionally a popular destination for honeymooners from India, but now Visit Indonesia Tourism Office is very focused on promoting the country as a MICE destination and the wedding tourism segment. “We have seen a good increase in the MICE segment this year and will continue to focus on this segment. Destination weddings and special interest tours such as golf and adventure are also segments which we hope to target through various sales and marketing activities. FIT leisure segment is also a key segment for us as the destination has best of spa treatments to offer and excellent shopping experience. Family travellers are sure to have fun with numerous waterparks and theme parks available,” stated Sondhi.
