PB PGI Wants Both Titles At Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship 2013


Jakarta, 5 June 2013 - The board of the Indonesian Golf Association (PB PGI) targets both the individual Boys and Girls titles at the Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship (EJWJGC) 2013 that started yesterday at the Pantai Indah Kapuk course of Damai Indah Golf, Jakarta.

Rizal Arya, head of the junior coaching program at PB PGI sees that the opportunities to meet these targets are wide open. "We are optimistic this could happen because we are strengthened at this eventwith golfers that are already quite mature. Some of them are athletes that participated in the SEA Games," said Arya in Jakarta, Tuesday (04/06/2013).

Those predicted to achieve the best results are Joshua Andrew Wirawan (defending champion), Jordan Surya Irawan (winner 2012) and Kevin Akbar (class A Boys), as well as Tirto Tamardi, Jason Martin and Theodore Rahardja (class B).

In the Girls Division the names are Victoria Chandra and Gavrilla Christina Arya (class A Girls). Gavrilla recently won the 2013 Kuala Lumpur Amateur Open in the Girls' division.

Meanwhile a formidable opponent for the Indonesian team are the Thais, who several times have won the individual and team events at the arena. This championship has 142 participants from 19 countries, being Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, Brunei Darussalam, Guam, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Japan, United Arab Emirates, United States, Philippines, Kazhakstan, and Hong Kong.

PB PGI Chairman Arifin Panigoro hopes that young Indonesian athletes will emerge from this championship who will shine on the world stage. "This event is not the end of their achievement. I appreciate this tournament because it is international class and this year Indonesia will face tough opponents," said Arifin.
